A Mutual Visa Exemption Agreement between Vietnam and Oman has been formally signed, enabling visa-free travel for holders of diplomatic, official, and special passports from both nations.
On April 28, 2022, in Hanoi, Ambassador Saleh Mohamed Ahmed Al Suqri of Oman and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Pham Quang Hieu of Vietnam signed the agreement.
On June 6, 2022, Oman ratified the agreement in accordance with Royal Decree No. 33/2022. After both parties finished their diplomatic notifications, the agreement went into effect 30 days later.

Eligible Travelers
Omani citizens holding diplomatic, special, or official passports can enter Vietnam visa-free.
Vietnamese citizens holding diplomatic or official passports can enter Oman visa-free.
Maximum Stay: Up to 90 days per entry without a visa.
Passport Validity: Must be valid for at least six months from the date of entry.
Purpose of Visit: Visa exemption applies for official or diplomatic missions and personal visits excluding paid employment. Those seeking to work, study, or engage in paid activities must apply for appropriate visas in advance.
Accompanying Family Members: Eligible if they hold the same passport type and are part of official delegations or diplomatic missions.
Entry Points: Visa-free entry permitted through all international checkpoints unless restricted due to security, public health, or public order concerns.

Ordinary (tourist) passports are specifically exempt from the agreement. Tourists from Oman who enter Vietnam with a standard passport still need a visa. For security, public health, or public order reasons, both countries maintain the power to refuse admission or to restrict stays.
An important step toward enhancing diplomatic ties and enabling more seamless official visits is the bilateral visa exemption between Vietnam and Oman. It shows that both nations are dedicated to deeper collaboration and reciprocal growth.
